2 T42 with different start up

#1 Post by lemmerdeur » Thu Apr 17, 2008 11:34 am

I have 2 T42 and when I turn them on, on the first window it shows Intel centrino logo in the right top corner for one. The other one shows Intel Pentium, no Centrino. That one was suppose to be a 1.8 CPU but someone replaced it with a 1.6CPU. When I go to system properties, it shows Intel pentium 1.6ghz 592, 512MB of ram. Why is the cause of the difference?

They all use Pentium Ms. There is no such thing as a "Centrino CPU". "Centrino" is a "platform", ie a combination of parts, usually CPU+Wireless+Chipset, all made by Intel. If all three of these are not made by Intel, then whatever company who's building the laptop is not allowed to use the name Centrino.

Basically, if only says "Pentium M" then it does not have Intel wireless. Which is not a big deal, as the old Intel wireless cards did not work very well.

... and the firmware version.

Two of my T4*'s splashed as Pentium M even tho I had installed (aftermarket) intel BG cards in them, but once flashed to the latest BIOS all show as centrino's (even a T40).

Of course I had to fix the 1802 error on the aftermarket cards... but did not have to fix it a second time after the BIOS update.

aaa is correct, it will only show the Centrino logo if you use the three parts from intel:

CPU + Chipset + wireless chipset.

If any of these misses, you won't see the Centrino logo.

It doesn't decrease your performance or something.
