External Burner Housing won't Hold New Drive????

#1 Post by sickofit » Thu Dec 09, 2004 1:46 am

Hello...

A buddy of mine has a 770X 366Mhz and he has a Iomega USB external burner....now the burner is screwed, just sits there trying to read discs....so I took it all apart and its just a normal drive....but when I tried to put a LG 52X CD-RW drive in the enclosure it doesn't work...tried all the jumper settings....nothing......its just a normal power connector.just like on a internal drive, and an IDE cable soldered to a board, which you then hook to the drive, just like a normal one....

Any ideas why this wouldn't work????....old burner was a 4X...the one i was trying to put in was a 52X....

Thanks in advance....

USB 1.0 and 1.1 simply can't handle anything that fast. And the enclosure probably can't either since it was from a 4x drive and those were in use a few years before we had USB 2.0, and Iomega probably never intended for anyone to use the enclosure for another product anyway.
