Wireless Adapter dissapeared.

#1 Post by ujay » Sat Apr 19, 2008 5:33 am

T41 - 2373 7FG - XP Pro SP2

Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter.
Intel PRO/1000 MT Mobile Connection.

I've always used WiFi at home, and after a trip away using the wired ethernet, I've arrived back and can find no trace of the Wireless adapter.

Nothing showing in Device Manager except the 1000 MT, same with Access Connections.
Tried reinstalling the drivers etc.

Is this likely to be a software or hardware problem?

Any suggestions?

Simple things first: Check in the BIOS to make sure it isn't disabled. under config/network/internal wireless devices

We're getting a couple of reports elsewhere in the subforums of wireless adapters seemingly vanishing into the Ether with the latest update to Access Connections 4.52.

Something to keep an eye on....

Sorry to take so long getting back.

Had a chnance to take a look this weekend

Checked the BIOS
Checked the card seated OK

Reinstalled the drivers for the card - card found and set up using Microsoft, everything fine until a reboot,
After reboot card is disabled again, doesn't appear in Device manager etc.

Uninstalled Access Connections, reinstalled drivers for the card - set up using Microsoft,

Everything working fine, but have to use Microsoft rather than AC.
Reinstalling AC breaks the system again.

Will try and restore AC when there is a new version, the current(4.52) is not working.

My wireless card is different, but I NEVER had any luck using third party (Microsoft) drivers ... only the drivers provided by IBM/Lenovo. I also had problems when AC or drivers were "updated" to supposedly "compatible" drivers. I had to recreate stuff from scratch. YMMV, but I would be wary of any system updates pushed out ... read the READMEs and see if there are fixes for your machine type. If not, don't update. Just my two cents.
