Been there, done that (and faster, 273KM/h) in a 1990 souped-up Toyota Camry V6.

It's my belief that at over 90 mph one isn't driving, one is merely -aiming- the car...Toine wrote:Just want to share this movie with you guys.

while runflat tires are nice they are designed to be run at 55 mph after they are punctured for a relatively short distance. pushing speeds like 225km let alone 273 km and having a blow out would be something pretty scary either way. yea shur the tire may not shred immediately, but i bet you would be doing some of your best driving skills to keep it under control.

Well, that's what it feels like on my motorcycle at 230km/h. You've just got to be sure to "aim" a good kilometer ahead.mgo wrote:It's my belief that at over 90 mph one isn't driving, one is merely -aiming- the car...

I am missing the point about Run flat tires helps.
I didn't see you get a flat tire...
I got one on the left front on a front wheel drive Alfa Romeo Alfasud, doing about 180KMH. Just let go of the gas and roll on till speed was down to ca. 70KMH before I even tried to brake!
The FWD kept me nice on track though, no problems.

yep. And even when you have normal tires, it's still okay to get off the gas and just take it easy. Plus a flat tire isn't common over here. So the chance you have one is slim to nothing.RealBlackStuff wrote:I am missing the point about Run flat tires helps.

Vacation with the family was 190 km per hour for over 4 hours. No sweat. (A4 2003 V6 225 hp).

It's good to know that 605s are still around...and that they kick...
XM was my preference at the time, being that I'm a Citroen buff, but Peugeots 405 and 605 remain very dear to me...
Miss the European roads...Strada Del Sol...Authobahn...M1...

Well, I have zero experience dealing with a flat / blown tire, hence my question. I suppose even at these speeds it wouldn't be a Richard Hammond-severity problem?
When I was a schoolkid, my dad's friend would give me rides to the school his son and I attended. I considered it a crime against humanity when he switched his XM for a Mitsubishi. Stunning car. I like a lot of Bertone's designs from late 80s until mid 90s.ajkula66 wrote:XM was my preference at the time, being that I'm a Citroen buff

I've had a front left tire explode at 145km/h (90 miles or so) on a '74 Citroen DSuper 5 and all that I've felt could be described as a slight kick in the steering wheel. By the time the car stopped there were no remains of the tire to be found, and the wheel itself was useless...that was the first time I've actually tested the legend about driving a DS with one of the rear wheels removed (and put in the front in this case), and lo and behold, it was true...
And, to my good friend RBS: I've rolled over as a passenger in AlfaSud 1.5Ti...that was no fun whatsoever, although I was wearing my seatbelt...you were so lucky to stay on track...
As for my friend mgo stating that you're only aiming a car above 90mph, there is some truth to that...but it feels good...especially if there is some level of danger involved...and older the car, the better...some sweet memories include:
- doing 125mph+ in a '61 E-type Jaguar as a passenger with the top down...the worst headache of my life after I've gotten out of it...I remember thinking "OMG if we hit a rabbit at this speed we'll be buried right here"...(1984)
- being pulled over by British police just outside Brighton after doing roughly 115mph in a 70mph zone in my '77 Benz 280SE(W116) and being politely asked :" Sir, are you alright?" before getting fined...only in UK...
(1986 or 1987)
- getting dozens of "thumbs up" and "victory" signs (along with a couple of not-so-nice-ones) from drivers that I've left to eat my dust in a very severely beefed-up Alfa Romeo Giulia on Strada Del Sol...estimated speed probably close to 140mph, laughing and praying...(1988)
I'd better stop now...or I'll get very sentimental...and start looking up cars that I really shouldn't own...

'Lekker scheuren' zeggen ze in Nederland.
I too have always liked the bigger Peugeots. Very comfortable, despite being a French car (or because it is...).
My 'pasts' include an all black 1956 Chrysler NewYorker convertible with Hemi, a 1958 Corvette 150Z and a 1966 Glaserati (Glas 2600 V8 ).
All bought used (and before I got married), but fantastic fun to drive.
When I lived in Switzerland ('75-'99), I used to do Basel-Amsterdam in under 5 hours on a regular basis.
Drive Mulhouse/Luxemburg/Belgium/Maastricht/Eindhoven/Amsterdam.
Much quicker and nicer to drive than the Autobahn.
They also had less traffic and less speed limits in those days.
