IP address 0.0.0.0 after driver updates

#1 Post by cuzman » Mon Apr 21, 2008 3:55 am

I had the dreaded GPU problem with my girl's T40. A reflow didn't solve the problem so I replaced the motherboard (and upgraded CPU and RAM at the same time). All seems well.

I updated the BIOS to 3.23 and the Embedded Controller Program to 3.04. I went to Windows Update and fully updated XP SP2. I then installed the ThinkVantage System Update 3.13 and downloaded everything. It updated a couple of drivers, including the wireless.

When I rebooted, the internet would not connect. I have to manually power on the wireless radio, and then Thinkvantage Access Connections has no problem finding all the wireless networks. However, when I try to connect to anything it will not get past "Applying wireless settings". The "Help Me Fix This" section then indicates that both the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCB Adapter and the Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Mobile Connection show the IP address and Subnet mask as "0.0.0.0". I can't seem to release or renew the IP address, and I don't know what else to do. Can anyone advise? TIA

Try to use older PRO/1000 LAN driver, I had similar issues with the latest one, it completely screwed up the windows IP settings.
