T60 2007-53G wireless problems

#1 Post by jimmy274 » Tue Apr 22, 2008 1:54 am

Ok, I would be very grateful if anyone has a solution for my troubles. I recently purchased a T60 - model 2007-53G, and got to installing Windows.
Everything went ok, except for 2 things - AHCI SATA and Access Connections. The AHCI problem was not that hard to deal with, but Access Connections is driving me crazy. Here's what's the catch...
I installed the latest drivers from IBM's site - the latest Access Connections (4.52) and the latest Intel 3945ABG drivers. The problem is that AC can't get the control over card - everytime I try to "Find a network", the AC says that my wifi is not powered on... The main switch is in "On" position, so everything's ok.
The worst thing is that even hotkey driver can't seem to get the control over card, because it toggles only my bluetooth, with warning saying that wifi cannot be toggled.
I'm again saying, the latest drivers are installed for everything... Any solutions? I just love AC (been using it for quite a while now) and I wouldn't want to use Windows' idiotic interface anymore...

You have a common "glitch" in the software which can be resolved only by uninstalling all the following software components, and then reinstalling them:

- Hot-Key (Fn-F5) driver (will ask you to uninstall 2 other items first)
- ThinkVantage Access Connections + profiles
- Power Manager
- Power Driver
- The wireless LAN card drivers.

Good luck!

Great, thanks, I'll give it a go when I get home. Is there an order I should follow for uninstall/install?

It's not working
These drivers are the worst thing I've seen for a Thinkpad...

I've run into this several times, mostly when the computer crashes or when upgrading the wireless driver and/or Access Connections. TOTAL PAIN IN THE BUTT. The instructions by antera309 here are old but worked like charm:

A few points didn't apply, perhaps due to changes in recent versions, but just follow along and you'll be fine. Replace 2200BG with whatever model of card you have.
now: X61, T42p
before: 600E, T23, X20, T40, X40, X31, T60
FS: Travel Bezel, 100GB drive (OEM Lenovo)

Ok, I've tried antera309's instructions and completely destroyed Windows - always a solid block either when it finishes loading Windows, either when booting Windows.
On the end, I reinstalled Win XP. From that point everything went ok, even with AC, but Win did block once (quite solid) after I installed bluetooth, ultranav driver and fingerprint reader. The strange thing is that everything works ok, if installed in the dumb .inf way, while it happens to block as if it was a hardware problem once I install AC, and all of the drivers using setups.
Which leads me to belief that either these drivers are just plain crap, or that Lenovo still needs to work on T60's BIOS and ECP.
Final conclusion - I deactivated Bluetooth (via Fn+F5), SATA is in compatibility mode and everything works fine ever since. I had similar problems with my old T41 and AC (solid blocks).
I'll probably try to install AHCI drivers, and just leave everything else if it functions well...
