Memory A31 - 1 Gig or 2 Gig?

#1 Post by matt_milligan » Wed Apr 23, 2008 10:00 am

I want to upgrade the memory in my A31. IBMs spec says the maximum supported memory is 1g. There some retailers out there that sell 1gb cards and says that it can support 2gb. Does anyone know if it will actually run on 2gb of memory?

Welcome to the forum!

The only reason that IBM states that 1Gb is the maximum for A31/p (and many other machines of that generation) is the fact that there were no 1Gb DIMMs available at the time, just 512Mb ones.

I've run both A31 and A31p units with 2Gb of PC2100 or 2700 RAM, and still do on my "main" A31p ThinkPad.

Good luck.

I had to do a BIOS update in order to use 2gb but you can get the file on Lenovo's website and it's not difficult to do.
