Bluetooth Sync with palm Treo 650?

#1 Post by hellosailor » Wed Apr 23, 2008 10:55 am

I'm baffled. I've gotten my phone and my computer to admit each other exist, but the instructions on the computer don't really say how to make a BT connection happen (I'm using the Vista software, not the Thinkpad connection manager) and the instructions with the phone relate to the old Palm Desktop software--which doesn't run on Vista. The new software that does run on Vista, is very different.

The phone talks about setting up a virtual serial port for Bluetooth to use, the computer offers me a serial port on Com4 which might be that--since there is no physical serial port and I don't have the extended bus serial/parallel hardware plugged in. (And that comes up as Com1, IIRC.)

So if I have Bluetooth and USB selected as options on the Hotsync software on the computer, regardless of whether the serial option is also selected, and I try to launch a Hotsync from the phone, the phone comes back with an error message "Unable to initiate Hotsync operation because the port is in use by another application." Which of course it isn't--if they mean the serial port, or the BT connection.

Has anyone got a Treo working with the BT on a Thinkpad? under Vista or otherwise? Any smartphone connection with BT?
