harddisk size
What is the maximum harddisk size for the thinkpad T41? I'm contemplating getting a 120GB to replace the old 40GB, would the thinkpad's BIOS (1RETDRWW 3.23) support?
If you see the thread T41: Which HDD to buy? .. and Samsung HM160HC issues (see the post of Thu Jan 17, 2008 12:45 pm), you will find evidence of a 250 GB HDD working in a T41. I am not aware of any bigger 2.5" ATA/PATA/IDE HDD than this (bigger drives seems to be SATA only). The price for the Western Digital Scorpio WD2500BEVE 250GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache ATA-6 Notebook Hard Drive is around $120, and it has received good customer feedback - see for yourself! What is furthermore interesting is that the 250 GB WD HDD (by several users) is claimed to be just as fast as 7200 rpm drives, and that they are quieter as well.
If any ThinkPad users have actual experience with respect to the performance of a 7200 rpm Hitachi drive versus the 250 GB WD HDD, then I would be very interested in hearing about that (such as e.g. XP boot time difference, program load times, and all-round user feeling).
