Help with R61 Install

#1 Post by Jim.Dude » Thu Apr 24, 2008 10:31 pm

Hi Guys,

First up, let me apologise if this question has already been answered, but I'm having all kinds of trouble.

So, the story is like this: I won (woot) a new R61 last week, model 8932-A19. It's a nice, simple little laptop that does great stuff. However, it came with all kinds of drivers and software that were unnecessary. Many of which didn't even run things on my model (e.g. the built in camera software).

So long story short, I formatted and started again. Now I know I didn't have to, but alas I only found out about the whole restore thing after, having never owned a Lenovo before. Ugh!

Now here's the problem. I'm left with one 'unknown device'. It's location reads 'on Intel(R) ICH8M-E LPC Interface Controller - 2815".

I'm really stuck because I've used advantage update to install everything available and I'm having no luck at all.

So yeah, any advice or help would be extremely appreciated.

Cheers,

Jim

Not sure if I can help, but I've expeirenced a similar problem.. Reinstalled R61 and updated with the System Update software. After the update I had two unknown devices.. One SM controller and a network thingie.. Both devices that have never appeared on the system before.

I couldn't update the drivers so I just removed the two devices in the device manager.. The SM Controller didn't come back, but I can't get rid of the unknown network device.. So I'm stuck as well - will follow this thread

Shameless bump --> still need help.

If anyone could even tell me what kind of chipset or motherboard details for an 8932-A19 that'd be a start! It's really [censored] me off that lenovo doesn't seem to want me to get that kind of information and I really don't feel like opening the laptop up to take a peek,

My 8932-A11 is probably close enough to yours for me to give suggestion. I used the combination of

http://tinyurl.com/5rzu8o
(R61 general drivers)
and

http://tinyurl.com/6gzntk
(8932-a17 drivers)
with the help from aida32
http://www.oldapps.com/old_version_aida32.php
to identify all the devices.

I also notice the drivers are better installed AFTER XP service pack is applied. But that's just me.

Have you finished the card-reader driver installation? I had three question-marked devices called (Base system device) that I couldn't figure out what they are until I applied the Ricoh 4-in-1 card reader drivers.

PS. Have you install the Intel matrix storage manager driver for the SATA hard drive?
