OEM Install CD

#1 Post by Miller88 » Fri Apr 25, 2008 7:48 am

Since I finally own my laptop after 2 years (and $2400 later  ) and I'm thinking of selling it, I would like to get the OEM cds that came with it.

I'm fairly certain that the laptop came with restore cd(s), but the college took them when they ordered the laptops. I'm running XP Pro (from the college) on here right now but I plan on formatting it. I would rather use the cds that were included with the laptop to get it back to what it was when new. It had XP home.

And please don't tell me that it was included on the hard drive. The college helpdesk formats completely and installs their garbage image on it.

well yeah, it was inlcuded on the HDD so now all you can do is buy the some from the marketplace or buy them from Lenovo. I might even have some around here but it's best to just get the originals. Your system doesn't come with Restore CDs by default as Lenovo just puts it on the partition then there's an option in Rescue and Recovery application to make your own recovery cds. IF that's gone too then yeah you gotta buy some.

I'm guessing its the T60 you're looking to sell (athough I wasn't aware that these came with XP home as an option)? The recovery CDs are still available from Lenovo but you may have to pay for them. Check with Lenovo. Just say the HDD died and you need to re-install the system - they may give you a free set. Otherwise, as shotta35 says, you may be able to get them on this forum.

Yup, it's the T60 in my profile.

I imagine I could stop in and ask the college what I can do about this but we aren't really on speaking terms and last time I was there it didn't end well

Is there a link? I looked around on their site for who to contact about this and I couldn't find anything other than generic tech support.

Yup, "generic tech support". If the first tech doesn't bite, try again later...............
