Booting 600x without a keyboard?

Hello All,


I have an old 600x which I am in the process of turning into a digital picture frame.

I have the thing taken apart completely and I intend to only keep the motherboard and screen inside a wooden frame. I managed to get rid of all the unnecessary plastic and parts but one problem remains:

I want to get rid of the built in keyboard. I will later wire only 3 external buttons on the frame (for play/pause, fwd and back) and use an external USB keyboard in case I need to do any maintenance. The problem is that I am not able to boot without the keyboard. First I got both 301 and 8611 errors but following the instructions I found on these forums, I managed to disable the trackpoint using the CMOS hack.

Is there anything similar for the keyboard and 301 error? With trial an error I found that I can short circuit the upper right pins on the keyboard connector to make the error go away but I wonder if there is a bit more elegant solution before I just solder it?

Edit: Sorry for the double post as rkawakami, The 301 error is probably a sticking key.

The poster's solution was to put some aluminum foil on the Sub Card connector.

edit: Ah, beaten out by a couple of minutes while I read that thread again....

Thanks for the link guys.

I see on that thread that they reached the same conclusion - short circuiting those pins (but less permanent with aluminum foil - nice trick). I thought there might be CMOS hack for this too but this will work just as well.
