Setting Up Gmail as default email?

#1 Post by fkelly » Sat Apr 26, 2008 2:18 pm

I am trying to figure out how to set-up gmail as my e-mail choice when I need to send something directly from the internet.
On my one laptop, I was able to set up my Thunderbird acct so when I had to email something directly from a webpage, my TB would open and I could send it using it.

But on my second lappie, I want to use google mail as my default email service but don't see (or can't figure out how to make it the windows default).

Any suggestions

Not sure if the Windows email method mentioned there works, but I'm pretty sure the mentioned firefox extension will.

Fairly easy to find this one. I Googled "making gmail default email" and it was the second link. The first link basically said the same thing but I thought that if the information came directly from Google.com itself, then it probably would apply/work.

I love you guys!! Been using Gmail on this X31 for a month or so, and just assumed that you couldn't "send a link" with a web-based browser.

Life is good. Thanks.

I've been using the Gmail notifier for quite a while now, but the feature you talking about and which I really miss has not been working from the day one.
Upon clicking an email link it just says that the default email client is not properly installed.
Any ideas why?

I know you've already found a solution, but the alternative is using Outlook (Or any other desktop client) and running Gmail as an IMAP or POP server. I run mine as an IMAP server, as I use the same accounts on my smartphone. This allows it to synchronize with both devices automatically.
Cell phones are my specialty. Got questions? Ask away.

Same here. Google has a nice feature that if you send via POP3 from Outlook or similar client, it keeps a copy of the sent message, unlike other POP3 servers. So when you check remotely via web, your sent message is available in the "thread."

Very cool
