Output from T40 to LCD HDTV

#1 Post by moneyshotz » Sat Apr 26, 2008 3:30 pm

I want to output my laptop display to my JVC LCD HDTV.
I already used up all my HDMI so I wanted to connect via component cable. My T40 is the one w/ the Radeon 7500. Will this cable let me output to my LCD?

Thanks

I doubt it - "It can only function with a VGA port that is either able to recieve or transmit Component signals" which I don't think the thinkpad has (but maybe someone else can confirm) - the T6x series certainly don't work with a cable like this. However, look on e-bay for a S-Video to Component adapter cable - that should work fine, although it won't give you Hi Def.

I am using a DVI-D to HDMI cable. The TV is 1366x768 resolution and the PC is set to 1280x720 using standard XP Pro plus a Viewsonic TV/monitor driver. XP MCE is better with most resolution supported.

So, I need a docking station to use a dvi to hdmi converter? I guess I should also be looking into getting a hdmi switch since I'm already using all of them on my tv?

Yes, you need a dock. The connector on the dock is DVI-D. DVI-A and DVI-I adapters and cables will not work.

Thanks. Do you know if there will be any overscan issues?

Will I be able to output in 1080p?

I'd probably get a dock. And these parts...

My setup does have overscan issues. I think XP MCE is better than using XP Pro. I used 720p but 1080p should work.

Following up. My setup 'almost' runs perfectly. I have a dvi to hdmi cable that goes to a HDMI switch then to my tv. I used the omega drivers that lets up output 1920x1080 w/o any overscan issues.

Only problem is that sometimes my thinkpad would stop outputting a video signal and the display would turn blank. The audio would still work though. Even if I open my laptop in the dock, the screen would stay blank.

This has only happened to me while I'm watching movies. My power options are set to always on. I never have anything turned off.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Where did you get this "omega" driver? This is an adapter driver or a monitor driver?

The ATI Radeon 7xxx series is not supported by this Omega driver. It may run but may have problems.
