Can I upgrade my T61's CPU?

#1 Post by Steve06 » Sun Apr 27, 2008 10:31 am

At the moment I have a T7500 (2.2 Ghz) with 3 GB of Ram and Vista 32-bit.

Is it possible to put a faster processor on that mainboard and will that void the warranty if I do it myself?

At least a T7700 should be possible? Is there any faster CPU that the board would support?

What would be the cost?

Thanks for advise.

Steve

this thread may be of some help: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=50586

by the sounds of it, unless you have a 42W7876 planar you'll be limited to the T7700.   if that's the case then i seriously doubt you'll notice much difference between your current T7500 and a T7700.   you'd be better off putting that money toward a new thinkpad after intel nehalem architecture becomes widely available later this year or early next year.

I've checked for the parts via the link mentioned in the other thread and my "PLANAR ASSEMBLY FRU" says Mfg part # = 42W3784 and FRU part # = 41W1489

so according to your statement it wouldnt work with a Penryn.
