ultrabay/ HDD/ Acronis problems

#1 Post by petemosss » Mon Apr 28, 2008 10:53 am

Hi folks, After cloning to a new drive the old 40G Hitachi was put in an Ultrabay adapter and a full and a couple of incremental back ups (via Acronis True Image 10) were done. Now it wont' recognize this drive in either the laptop slot or in the docking station ultrabay slot either. I took adapter apart and all pins are in and lined up but drive just continues to make clicking noise. It is a Hit. Travelstar dated 5-28-06 and was working perfectly. Any ideas short of going out and buying an unwanted 2.5" HD enclosure. Thats the reason I bought the dock with the ultrabay in the first place. Any advice appreciated! Pete

The description of the clicking noise to me may mean that your hard drive has failed.

Unfortunately you may have discovered first hand what many others already have known. Hard drives fail at any time for many reasons. Since this was a backup drive you should easily be able to replace it and be on your way. Since you may have been stung by a failure you may want to consider multiple backups. Backups on different media and with different and mulitple pieces of hardware.
