X60 or X61 Tablet?
X60 or X61 Tablet?
I'm looking to buy a tablet, I want the SXGA screen for the higher resolution but I'm then debating if I should get an X61T or an X60T. The proce difference is around $300 it seems, with this in mind is the X61T worth the extra cash or should I save some money and make do?
The X60T I looked at would be XP, the X61T would be Vista, that doesn't concern me too much as I can upgrade to Vista on the X60T if needed, assuming there are no harware/driver issues in doing so.
So, I guess my question is what does my extra $300 get me on two similarly spec'd machines and is it worth it? Any advice welcome!
Chris.

I have owned both, and as far as I am concerned, the major difference is that the X61t is all Core 2 Duo processors (1.4, 1.6, and 1.8GHz) whereas the X60t was mostly Core Duo processors (with the exception of the 1.5GHz L7400). Also, the X61t has the "Santa Rosa" chipset and the enhancements that come with that, including Intel X3100 graphics which are better than the 945 in the X60t.
A good resource to compare specifications:

Also, the X60t has an infrared port and the X61t does not, but I doubt that you (or anyone) really would miss it

they also have different SXGA+ displays. x60t is a tad less bright but also less grainy and smudge free.
x60t is also more robust as ist comes with a single piece chassis, x61t is 2 pieces to better replace the keyboard.
Differences in speed/chipset are imho neglectable.
Overall I think x60t is the better buy.

First time I've heard about this difference. Can you expound more on what how a "2-piece chassis is better to replace the keyboard"? Thanks!pibach wrote:x60t is also more robust as ist comes with a single piece chassis, x61t is 2 pieces to better replace the keyboard.

It is simply a built difference, not a functional difference. The X61t has a lower palmrest that is detachable from the upper part. For X60t, the lower palmrest is connected to the upper part, you have to remove the whole thing to access to WWAN and PCI-E card inside.
However, the part about easier to replace the keyboard is not true. You can replace the keyboard without removing the palm rest or the whole cover.

Thanks for the advice. I ended up ordering an X61T, I was going to order from EPP where the base config comes in around $1300 but ended up finding a deal for $1500 for one with SXGA, 3yr warranty, 2Gb, 120Gb, Ultrabase, DVD Burner, 8 cell battery and fingerprint reader, model 7767-96U
Can't wait for it to arrive!
