AC Adapter

#1 Post by sbux4622 » Fri May 02, 2008 12:49 am

I have one original AC Adapter come with T41. I also have two old AC Adapters (FRU PN 02K6557) come with ThinkPad 570 & 600. Specification shows that TP570 & 600 AC Adapter gives less current output (3.36A) than T41 one. Voltage output is same anyway (16V). Is using TP570/600 AC Adapter safe on T41? I guess it should be okay as voltage output is no difference. Could any expert confirm with me? Thanks.
Current: T41 (2373-9FH), TP570 (Hard working...)
First: TP600 (Broken already)

The older 3.36a adapters will work but because they are underrated, will charge the battery more slowly and run warm.
I would use the 4.5a adapter whenever possible, especially when chargeing the battery or leave the battery out when useing the older adapters.

I have used the older less powerful adapter on a T43p. Works nicely. One time though when using a particular USB drive the T43p turned completely off when I plugged the drive in. This issue was totally repeatable. Once I used the 4.5a adapter this issue disappeared.

In summary your battery will charge slower and depending on which USB accessories you choose it may not work at all.
