T30 Recovery Disk Adaptability

#1 Post by Mikea560 » Sat May 03, 2008 8:59 am

My T30 has died and was looking on Ebay at used T30's for sale. Found several for sale without hard drives, operating systems but
the model numbers were not exactly the same as my model. Can I use my old hard drive and recovery disk to recycle another used T30 back to life. My Model is 2366 81U, what models would be compatible.

Mike

PS I would not using my old XP license on more than one machine.

You can transfer any part you like from one T30 to another.
If you want, you can even transplant the motherboard from the 'new' one to the old one.
Good way of getting to know your T30.
Shouldn't take more than an hour or so.

Directly compatible are the following (where X can be anything):
2366-21X,23X,41X,43X,61X,63X,81X,83X,A1X,A3X,A5X,B1X,C1X,D1X,G1X,H1X
2367-21X,23X,41X,43X,61X,63X,81X,83X

Yes, you can use T30 recovery CD's from one to the next -- as long as they are all T30's.

There should be a unique WIN-XP License product key printed on a decal on the underneath (bottom side) of each T30.

If yours is the pre-loaded XP that came with the T30, you can remove the HD and put it into any other T30 without worries about the COA.

Hey thats a great question! How can you tell if your system was preloaded? My guess was if it didn't have the hidden partition. Are there other ways to determine this :?:

All Thinkpads that I've owned (including my T30) were preloaded from the factory as new with a recovery partition. If the partition is gone, someone removed it or replaced the drive. When I got the machine it had a 30GB 4200rpm drive in it with no recovery partition. I got T30 R&R CD's from a member here and ordered a new drive which will be here shortly. When the dust settles it will have a 160GB Seagate Momentus 5400.3 drive with a recovery partition.
