Lousy wireless connection on new X60T - advice?

#1 Post by alexander_s » Sat May 03, 2008 10:50 pm

I have a new x60T (still under Lenovo warranty), model 6364CC3 XP tablet and Intel *cough, cough* wireless. I have had nothing but trouble with the wireless on this machine, usually wireless ON but showing NO network access point availability. Dis-installed the wireless driver and re-installed it with limited results. Called Lenovo and they instructed me to remove ThinkVantage Access but still no good. My other machines don't do this. SHould I replace the Intel 3945ABG card that comes with the X60 for the IBM/Thinkpad ABG Atheros??? Anybody had success getting it covered under warranty??? TIA.

I'd ask Lenovo for a replacement Intel card first. It's a CRU (you replace it after they ship it to you). It's worth a shot...no?

Sounds like there are lots of unhappy folks with the Intel card. I guess I'll try replacing it thru lenovo warranty 1st on the premise that I simply have a bum card. Jumping ahead, in the event that Intel card #2 is also bad, would you advise I just buy the Thinkpad wireless card on buy.com or do you think I'd have a chance getting it as a warranty replacement from lenovo?

I think you have zero change of getting Lenovo to alter the machine's original config based upon the fact that you now want an Atheros card instead of an Intel, but you can ask and see what they have to say. If I needed an Atheros card out of warranty I'd ask on our own Marketplace forum before going to EBay or a retail outfit like Buy.com, unless I saw a deal there that was very good.

Try the latest driver from the Intel web site. I updated my X61T and the WLAN Card seems to pick up signals much better, especially for non broadcasting SSIDs.

Use the whole package, no just the driver.
