Need some information regarding the batteries

#1 Post by josip » Sun May 04, 2008 10:23 am

In the accessories part of the shop, there are two seemingly equivalent batteries, both priced at 143.20$:

ThinkPad X60 Series Extended Life Battery ThinkPad X60 Series Extended Life Battery
ThinkPad X60 Series 8 Cell High Capacity Battery

Which one to get?

PS. These are compatible with X61 too, right?

I'd guess they are compatible with an X61. The extended battery connects to the bottom UltraBase connector and provides about 2.6 hours of extra battery life. This battery kicks in after your regular battery is exhausted, so it basically adds battery time to the one you already have installed. The 8 cell gives up to 5 to 6 hours of battery life on select systems. It has an extended section on the back edge and fits in the standard ThinkPad X60 Series system battery slot. I'd say that you would get more overall battery time with the 8 cell over a standard 4 cell with an extended battery, or they would be very close. The main advantage to the 4 cell would be less weight and it doesn't stick out of the machine. Considering size and weight, you get the best of both worlds with a standard 4 cell and an extended battery because the extended battery is removable, whereas the 8 cell is constant dead weight. I hope that answers your questions.

I think these are the batteries that the OP is talking about:

X60 8-cell:

X60 extended life battery:

If so, they are definitely compatible with both the X60 and the X61.

Yeah but the extended should add a small incline to your laptop.. right? And it also weighs a little more (but I am guessing less than an 8-cell).

Having an 8-cell + 4-cell is also ok IMHO, since you can always just tack on the 8-cell after your 4-cell runs out.

FYI - 8 cell runs for 8 hours or more on lowest settings on X61s

GL, and both batteries are compatible with the X60/X60s/X61/X61s

Note: The "Slimline" battery works only with X61s and X60s. The Tablet batteries work only with X61T and X60T.
