#1 Post by fefrie » Sun May 04, 2008 11:41 pm

Boy does ebay load slow on my laptop. Is it my t23 at 1.13ghz with 640mb ram or is ebay just a really slow loading website?

It might be your browser! I use opera 9 on my T23 and don't notice too much difference ...

Nope, can't be the browser, I use Opera 9.25.

I tried .26 and .27, but it seemed to use too many resources.

I've commented on here and elsewhere about this problem also. Sometimes it's fast and sometimes the first part of the page will load and then the rest takes forever. Actually, I've noticed it on almost all the websites I go to. Certain times of the day are worse and if I'm at a different location, it can be worse also. I downloaded "pingplotter" and found there are several hop points that can drop 30-80% of packets. There doesn't seem to be any ryhme or reason as to where or when it happens. Even my home page, (local provider), can be slow.

Ahah! I knew it! Opera 9.27 has come close to crashing on my Vista Desktop. P4-3.06 Ghz. I thought it was Vista but now... Ohh what were we talking about, oh yeah. yeah ebay can be a cow at some of the weirdest times I thought it was just server load; but their tech guys certainly have got the hang of load balancing by now...or have they

I have been using 9.27 on my T60 and T23 for the last 2 weeks with absolutely no issues ... ebay included!

Does this problem happen with both wired and wireless connections?

My connection is wired. Opera will freeze up or become unresponsive for several minutes, infrequently when doing nothing more extraordinary than closing a tab or loading an image file, etc.

Though unrelated to the topic at hand. Opera is my browser of choice for 2-3 years now, although, I use IE7 on my T30 because of most of the sites I visit are secure portals. Big image laden sites don't seem to be a problem for it.

I wonder if all the cached resources ebay spews is the root of this issue. Later today-- I'm going to experiment with dumping the history, temp files and cookies prior to loading ebay and see if there's a correlation.

See what happens if you add this line:
127.0.0.1 include.ebaystatic.com
to your HOSTS file.
