Pb T21 not booting (maybe alimentation ?)

#1 Post by artic_squirrel » Mon May 05, 2008 1:51 am

hi

maybe I'm not as good in english as I would like, so excuse me if my sentences are weird :)

I got a refurbed t21 (2647g) working on w2k
I installed 368Mo of ram (instead of the 256 initally)

all worked fine until this time where i get black screen from nowhere

I explain :

I was installing xp_sp2 whan the pc just shut off

then I tried to power it up by pressing the power button---> nothing happened
acutally, just all the leds blinked 0.1sec but no power
(and if I continued to press power button, nothing happens)

as I was on battery and sector, I tried "just battery", "just sector", "full charged battery+sector", all the configurations-------->nothing (or more presicelly just all the leds blinked but no power)

I decided to wait few hours

I did manage to install the OS properly (about 40 min), but again, black out, no power

I wait again; the pc booted, but after 20 mins , power off, can't get back online immediatly after the shut down

and it still goes that way, so far (wow is that english ???)

the most weird part is that it appeared really suddently overnight

and so I don't know if it's a power supply problem, or a heat pb

a+

Seems to me you have one of two possible problems: either the CPU is overheating (in that case remove the fan, make sure it operates correctly, and reinstall with fresh thermal paste), or you have the "BOD" (blink of death) problem - the computer LEDs only blink briefly when the power button is pushed, no fan, no display. In this case, you could try removing the battery and AC adapter, lettíng the computer sit for several days, and then trying again. Sometimes this helps.

Another possibility would be to remove everything (mini-PCI card, battery, all RAM except for ONE stick) and seeing if this helps.

Apropos... votre anglais est meillieur comme ma (mon?) francais

Just wanted to prove the point

I speak English (native) and German (fluent), but French was a big problem for me at school... had terrible problems with the cases.

hello
thanks guys for responding

I've read the long post of the BOD, and I really think that's it
but of course there's no definitive cure for that :(

so, I don't know what to do...

since I got [censored] off, I didn't turn on the t21 for a long while and I'll try this evening, but with no hope.

it's a pity cause this portable 's really good..

and one has to say "mon francais" whatever your sex is
