Which Lenovo Key to Activate Vista x64

#1 Post by kookatt » Tue May 06, 2008 2:14 am

Thanks to the help of members in this forum, I am, finally, get the x64 DVD for Vista x64.

Before I'm going to install the Vista x64, I would like to ask as to which key to activate Vista x64.

My Thinkpad x61 originally comes with Vista Business x86 (32-bit) I use the method suggested in the net to get ABR file that contain OEM preinstall key for Vista 32. My machine also has COA sticker stating the key for Vista 32 as well.

My plan is to install Vista Business x64 using DVD created from the file download from MS and using these keys to activate it without call for new activation key.

My question is that either key can be used to activate Vista Business x64bit version (Retail DVD) without calling for new activation key. If not, how can I activate it. Do I have the right to request for new activation key from MS in Thailand?

Thank you in advance for all your help

Use the sticker key, Vista keys are independent of being 32 or 64 bit. That's how I upgraded from Vista Ultimate 32 bit to Ultimate 64 bit. Trust me, you will never want to go back, especially if you have 4 gig of RAM.

Use the guide at:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=144783

There is a link on that page that will let you "save" your activation and transfer it to a new installation of Windows without a CD Key, so you don't have to go through the activation process at all. That's what I did.
