Questions about pgrading T43 disk

#1 Post by log111 » Tue May 06, 2008 8:49 am

Someday ago I decided to upgrade my T43 harddisk since it's only 40GB large. I bought a samsung HM100JC harddisk and changed my old one. Strangely, when the T43 booted it gave me a 2010 error. Although I could press 'Esc' to jump the error and entered my windos nomerally, I just couldn't bear the annoying error. Does anyone know how to remove the error? Must I buy an IBM harddisk to solve the problem?

The T43 bios checks your drive against its list of certified drives and if not on the list, gives the 2010 error warning. The latest bios allows you to set an option to just pause at the error and continue without hitting the esc key.
The fujitsu 2120AH 120gb drive is compatible with the T43 and is one of the best and least expensive choices to avoid the error.
I have used it in 2 T43's and it works well.
See the long thread - Problems with non-thinkpad option drives on T43 thinkpads - for more insight into the error.

fujitsu 2120AH seems not in the compatible list. I read the compatible list and cannot find MHV2120AH in the fujitsu series.

The list has to do with firmware updates, and not all drives that are compatible.
Trust me, the Fujitsu works well as many people with T43's can attest to.

Well, I don't know what do you mean about "work well". Someone tells me that T43 has a SATA-->PATA bridge which may courses data loss and speed loss. Because of these T43 requires compatible HDDs to support the bridge. Barely jump the warning message may not be a good method.
But I am very happy to hear you convince fujishu 120gb works compatible with T43. :D I am considering using my samsung 100gb in T43 and bearing the annoying warning meassage. I have two samsung mobile hdd and don't want to buy a new one.

I have never heard that and I can't see why that may be the case. Unless someone can offer substantiated proof, I'd disregard such advice as hearsay. The Samsung drive should work perfectly well.

Em, this is a hearsay to try to explain why T43 has such a compatible HDD list that others may not have. Good to hear samsung HDDs work well! :D
