Hello,
Just recieved my new to me T40 Thinkpad, Was a Ebay purchess, seems to be in Great condition. Pretty basic I guess, but runs great so far. This is my first ever notebook, so I look like a monkey playing with a football  I have one quick question to start . Got online with the wireless right away, to see if that worked, it does. One of the first things was windows update wants me to download SP3 for my XPpro. I havn`t yet. Just wanted to know if this is a good idea for this machine or not.
Has SP2 now. I didn`t know there was a service pack 3.

Model is 2373 7cu
1.5 processor
512 ram
40 g HD
cdrw/dvd
Intel 2100 pro wireless b

Thanks, Gregg

Welcome to the forum!

My suggestion would be to run the machine as it is right now for a while and get used to it. You can always update later, if need be.

Enjoy your new ThinkPad and may it serve you well.

Congrats. I remember holding my first T40 and thinking it was as much fine art/engineering as it was a great computer.

I still think they are amazing...and fun to tear down and rebuild...

Yes, I am amazed at this machine so far. I paid $275 for this, can only imagine what it must have cost back in 2003. Its still like new!
I thought of making a few uprades, but now I will only up the ram a bit and get a new battery. The wireless is only B, but it connects to my network just fine and I have been getting downloads at same speed as my desktop that is hard wired. 100kbs. I have the slowest speed Verizon DSL plan. Do, have another quick question though. I downloaded Access Connections but am affraid to install it, for fear of mucking up a thing that works well allready. :D
My only thought was, if I had that I coud turn the radio on and off.
currently, it is on all the time. Thought it might help with battery consumption a little. As it is now with weak battery, I have to be on AC all the time.

Thanks for the feedback, Gregg

Gregg,

Good luck with your T40.

Sometimes holding down Fn on the keyboard front left and pressing F5 would bring up a wireless menu that may be able to turn your wireless on and off.

I have good success with Access Connections. If you are not going to be using your T40 at many wireless locations there is probably no reason to install it since the wireless already works nicely.

Check your messages for a note from me about your battery.
