Troubleshooting screen blinking issue X60s

#1 Post by bullarded » Thu May 08, 2008 8:10 am

I have a new problem that I am sure will be covered by a warranty (except battery of course) but I am having trouble describing and replicating it.

It appears, that using my original, year old, very large battery that came with my computer, a power blip is making the screen blink off. It's not really off, it's got a glow to it, but I can't see anything useful. The disk operation light whirs and the machine stays on.

No attempt at making the screen come back on (I've followed the trouble shooting tips posted on the Lenovo site including pressing the Fn button for a long time. But it will back upon restart.

I am pretty sure this only happens on battery power. I have now installed a newer (smaller) battery and I haven't had the problem on battery power. I think it could be the battery (the old one).

Oh and I reinstalled the power manager driver and the video driver and also checked the power scheme it's on portable/laptop.

Can anyone help me try to isolate this before I call for service? If it is indeed a known battery issue then I won't even need to call for service. The "old battery" is about 16 months old and hasn't been particularly well treated. I just leave it in, and on the dock station, and under charge, etc.

Many thanks.
