Power Manager won't install on Vista- x61t

#1 Post by sliverstorm » Thu May 08, 2008 3:06 pm

I got my x61t with windows xp, but I wanted to try out vista, so after backing everything up I installed an ultimate version. Everything is working fine except for one thing- I can't install the power manager. It tells me it cannot run on my computer. I went digging through temp files and found an environmental variable set to the error I get. The variable was named something like wrong hardware, leading me to believe it either thinks my laptop isn't a lenovo, or that it's improperly identifying my battery. I've tried reinstalling the power manager driver and uninstalling it, removing devices from the hardware manager, everything I could think of. tried to install power manager with system update, and manually. Help is much appreciated!

I suspect the BIOS is not programmed with your type and model number. Can you go into BIOS screen and see if the type, model and serial numbers show up correctly?

Has the X61t ever been serviced? Possibly had the system board replaced? From what I heard, sometimes the technicians forget to program the new board with the original system's type, model and serial numbers. There is a floppy disk that will enable the programming. Search on this forum.

well, it was bought as a new refurb (don't know what to call it- unopened/never shipped) Hasn't been serviced. I have however updated the bios from 1.09 to 1.10. Although, I believe the bios still reports properly... I'll double check.
