X61 Sleeve that fits like a glove - $1.00

#1 Post by treker » Thu May 08, 2008 9:18 pm

I finally found a minimalist sleeve that fits like a glove for the X61 with the standard 4 cell enhanced battery. And it only costs $1.00 plus $4.59 shipping. It is designed for 10.4 inch notebook but perfectly fits the X61. It is made out of soft durable stretchy polyurethane foam with a fold over cover secured with velcro. There are no pockets or room for mouse, power adaptor, or any accessories. It carries just the X61! Perfect for minimalist travel. Stow it in a backpack or carryon and your Thinkpad will be properly protected. Mine arrived from HK in about ten days.

Thanks for the link - do you think there would be enough room for an x61s w/ the 8 cell battery?

There might be room if the 8cell battery sticks out only slightly from X61s.

The sleeve fits tightly around my X61 with 4 cell. With the cover closed to allow the maximum room but still "lock on" with the velcro, there is about 1/2 inch of space for a larger battery sticking out the back. In other words the cover has about 1/2 inch of "slop" and still be able to close.

I have some pictures showing this...but cannot figure out how to add them to post. I will be glad to email them if you pm me.

Thanks - I dont think that it would work for the 8-cell, then, as the 8-cell does stick out quite a lot --> it sticks out about an inch or so from the back.

I think it should work for X60 too, shouldn't it? Unfortunately, it' s not for those of us who like the biggest batteries, like me. According to the specs it should stick out more than an inch (X60 series, X61 series)

My X61 with 4 cell Enhanced Battery, "sticks" out the top of the sleeve about 1/4 inch. Then I fold over the cover flap tightly and "lock" the velcro. No room is left in the top. It is a very tight fit. Very secure.

But if I loosely fold over the flap allowing for maximum room at the top but still fully attaching the velcro, there is approximately 1/2 inch of space beyond the battery. This would still be very secure with the velcro "locked".

If your X61/X60 with 8 Cell battery extends more than 1/2 inch beyond the back of case, I doubt you would be happy with this sleeve. It is a tight fit for my X61 especially on the sides.

A nicer alternative would be one of the Shinza cases, either the 11 or 12 inch model. But they are almost $40 shipped. Not $5 like this one.
