T30 - External DVD/RW Drive

On my T30, I wanted to Install Linux on an Ultrabay 2000 slotted 2nd hard disk drive. So I hooked up a recently purchased USB 2.0 external enclosure with an NEC DVD/RW in it and booted up the T30. The DVD/RW is not seen in BIOS or on the F12 boot list, but it is seen in XP. Why?
Edit: By the way, the second hard drive in the bay is seen in boot order.

Is the external drive connected trough a USB Hub? Could be the reason that it is seen in XP, but not in the BIOS.

Try to connect it directly to the T30 if it is connected trough a hub.

frankiepankie, thanks for the reply. At first it was connected to the dock, then I removed the T30 from the dock and connected the DVDRW drive to it directly. Same problem.

Harry, if you connect it to your T60 temporarily, is it seen in the boot order list? Is there a firmware update for the Nec drive?

Both good points. I'll check for both interoperability with my R60/T60 and for a firmware update for the drive and post back.
