R51 Product Recovery problem

#1 Post by J. Andersen » Sun May 11, 2008 3:32 am

I want to reinstall all software because my R51 had a slow boot time.
I have tried this before with another R51 without any trouble.
But with my own something goes wrong.
Everything seems to go OK until 'IBM Customizations' (IC) is running.
IC is running shortly, the comp. reboot and IC starts again, but this time it will never stop again. It's repeating the sequence all the time.
The only thing to do is to press the On/Off button. If I do that I will get some manual options to get XP Pro functioning. This way I will end op with a XP Pro on a C: drive with FAT32 and absolutely no software from IBM. And that is not what I want.
3 years ago I made the 7 Recovery CD's with the Rescue and Recovery program. Have also tried to install with those but with exactly the same result.
It seems that there is and always have been a software fault in the hidden partition.
I don't think there is a problem with the hard disk.
BIOS is the latest and XP SP3 was installed before I tried to reinstall. Have also done a NTFS format with a XP Home OEM CD.
I have no XP Pro Install CD.
The R51 is out of warranty.
Can anybody help me, what is the best thing to do?

Solved

Problem solved. In fact the IBM/Lenovo software was there and could be installed manually.
The file autoconvert.exe was missing but I copied it from my T30 and ran it.
Everything seems to work by now.
