Thinkvantage System Update doesn't work

#1 Post by riccardoostelli » Sun May 11, 2008 10:27 am

Hello to everyone in the forum.
I bought a used IBM Thinkpad T43 last week.
The laptop hadn' t got any operating system on it so I tried to install Win XP whith any result: no driver for too many things (ethernet controller an wlan included)...So, Here I am with a marvellous Vista. Easy installl and set up for basic hardware but...I' ve got a Thinkpad! I want the ABS system for hard drive, Acces IBM blue key running and all the other things!
I downloaded from the drivers and support page Thinkvantage System Update but it doesn't work!
After a first window with "Type Machine:TP-1Y_" and "OS: Vista" it retur "Error 75 from Package Index Server".
Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance
Riccardo

Welcome to the forum.

Try going to the driver matrix for the T43 and install the drivers you need manually.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I cannod run the Sudden Motion Sensor installer and some others...And I would like to know why the Thinkvantage Update doesn't find the right system type and serial number.
I found something in C:\programmi\lenovo\systemupdate\thinkpadregkeys\
There are some files with machine description on them and I'm trying to change manually....
Bye

The servers are often down on Sunday.

I had the same problem after replacing my T41's motherboard with a new one.
The problem fixed after inserting the model and serial number with "IBM Thinkpad Hardware Maintenance Diskette" to the epprom.
Now the update system works fine.

File suggested in the link above doesnt' t work (after some step returs "image file corrupted")
I found another v1.72 diskette on google but when I push "esc" when I see IBM logo, it says "remove disk, press any key to start up" or somethink like that. I checked security setting for predesktop area and it is "normal".I' ve formatted normally because there isn't enough space for msdos+files. How can I do to load this floppy?
Thanks in advance.

I did the floppy thanks to thermiGR. But I don't know what I have to change (I' ve got just the sticker with serial number). And I can' t "save" what I add on the EEPROM...
