How to replace the T40 AC power plug?

#1 Post by John H » Mon May 12, 2008 3:23 pm

My T40 AC power plug got screwed up because I kept stumbling across the trailing cord while trying to move the T40. Now it's loose and erratic. I have a new power plug in hand, but I'll have to install it myself (my good thinkpad tech moved back to Taiwan to sit out the US economy bust).

I have the T40 hardware manual, T40-39t6192_01.pdf, but there's no FRU for the power plug.

I'm guessing that I can start by following the procedure for the MB FRU and then improvising when the innards are exposed. Is that right?

you need to remove the motherboard from the case and then remove the rear frame. The frame is shown in the motherboard removal section.

Thanks. I want to do this as quickly as possible without contingencies because my T60 is acting up erratically so while the T40 is down I'm dependent on my old 570 (tho that old veteran runs pretty darn good!).
