Wifi in A31...update.
I want to thank sjthinkpader for your help. I was able to return the Atheros 5006x to the dealer and he exchanged it for an older 5004 one with the 5213 chipset in it. He refund a little money as well. I wanted no mistakes. I did a clean install of XP, loaded up the Linux cd and applied the no-1802 patch again in case. Once again, I did'nt apply the 01C9 patch as I was'nt getting that error anyway. I then shutdown the laptop and installed the 5004 card. As I saw in a previous post, I decided to download driver ver. 330156 and crossed my fingers. I installed just the driver and not the Client Utility. I took my A31 along with a T22 with an Intel 2200BG in it. Once again, the Intel saw the APs and my new Atheros did'nt...just the "no networks available" message. I did an ipconfig /all command and saw the address of my card. Under XP WZC, I chose the CONFIGURE button for the Atheros card. Everything looked ok, except where it said Network Address....not present. Does this mean the card needs a MAC address or something else. I hate to think I need to buy another Intel card for this one when I had my heart set on the Atheros. Fresh install of XP, compatable Atheros drivers and WZC to round it up. This noob must be doing something wrong. I can't believe two different Atheros cards won't work in the A31.

1. Do you see the Atheros card in the System Properties, Hardware, Device list?
2. From Start Menu, Connect to, Show all connections; do you see the Atheros Icon?
3. If you do have the Atheros Icon, when you right click on the Icon; do you see the Enable/Disable choices?
4. When you click the View Available Wireless Networks, do you see any networks?
5. In the last choice Properties, you can set the SSID, encryption and other parameters.
p.s. I did a WinXP install on a 8GB CF card as a SSD today. This machine had an Atheros card also. I went ahead and used the IBM ver 4.1.2.156 driver and it worked fine.

Note that the nnnnX denotes a dual band card.

The answer is yes yo all of the above. It took me a minute to get to the settings. I was using the Classic View but switched back to the XP style to see what you were talking about. I'll download the IBM drivers to see if that helps. Under SSID, I used the name MINE just to put something in there.

For the SSID, "any" will work. Since you didn't see any APs, the problem is still in the card or setting. Are the antennae connected?

When you press "yes", the no-1802 utility runs.
When you press "no", it shows you a list of peripherals in the system. The Atheros card along with other peripherals would be in the list. Scroll down to that entry and press enter (may be some other key) will change the "ethernet" device type reporting to "wireless" device type. Then BIOS will not report two ethernet cards in the system during POST.
