Dead T40 Motherboard question - big pics

#1 Post by Axcess » Tue May 13, 2008 8:34 pm

Hello,
Long time lurker, first time poster ......

To make a long story short, my trusty T40 (2373-82U) motherboard fried (pics included).

The only question I have is, can a battery take out a motherboard? I currently have a 9 cell Li-Ion battery with approx 2.5-3 hours runtime on it. Last week when I plugged the AC power into the T40, it would have a fit, switching back and forth between charging/discharging. The only way I found to remedy the situation was to unplug the AC power many times before it would stay just charging.

Any input would be appreciated.

Well, i'm off to post in the Marketplace to look for a new board for the T40. I have upgraded my T40 to 2GB RAM/80GB HD/Atheros-G so I really don't want to give it up. Just need to find a good working T40 board.

Thanks,
Axcess

To me that sounds like a bad or underpowered AC adapter. Are you using the 75 watt model?

Hmmmm, never thought of that ..... it's an original IBM AC Adapter FRU: 02K6753. Output is rated at 16V 4.5A
Never had a problem before, which not to say that there could be something wrong with it.
Multimeter testing shows 16.52V

Cheers,

That's a 72w adapter. It should be fine for a T40.
