#1 Post by rangerxlt » Thu May 15, 2008 9:04 pm

I found out my freezing problem was an overheating problem, I`m thinking about upgrading to a t23 fan/heatsink. But my new problem is my t20 was working fine a day ago, I fired it up today and after the bios screen it said hard drive not installed, os not detected please hit any key to continue and install hard drive?????. Is my hard drive dead???, I can hear it spinning but no hd light or nothing PLEASE HELP!! :cry:

First thing, a T23 fan/heatsink assembly will not work inside a T20 (or T21 or T22). The T23's fan plugs into a small connector on the motherboard, while the T20-T22 has the fan's electrical contacts on the bottom side of the assembly.

It's possible that your hard drive has bitten the dust. It's also possible that it simply needs to be re-seated. Try removing the drive from the bay, inspect the 40-someodd pins at the back of the drive to insure that they are all straight and shiny, then re-install it. Also verify that the boot order in the BIOS is properly setup. If you have the hard drive installed in the system and it's being recognized, then BIOS should report the fact under the Boot menu. Another problem is that the defect could be on the motherboard. Any chance on trying another known good hard drive which doesn't have anything important on it?

I did mean t22 not 23, I`ll check in boot in bios , I have a hard drive but it`s out of a dell laptop , i tried it and the hard drive light stayed on and then it said no hard drive installed again. Also after is said no harddrive installed, i hit f12 an it said error pci not configured and the time was all wrong . I`m hoping it`s just the hd!!! :(

"Time all wrong"... I'd replace the CMOS backup battery and then perform a "load setup defaults" in BIOS. If you don't have a backup battery handy, then you should be able to boot without it and still load the default settings (it should be under the "Restart" menu).

T23 Harddrive

#5 Post by furiousmonkey » Fri May 16, 2008 6:58 am

My T23 had the same error come up after I had installed a new hard drive into it. It took a couple of attempts but I finaly got it sitting just right. Not sure why it was giving me the trouble.

One way to test, is to carefully put the hard drive in place without the audio cover, just make sure that it is nice and snug when connected. Then power on and see.

I have not had a hard drive fail without making a lot of "noise" like ticking sounds. But when they go, and believe me they do, then its all over but the cryin!

I use a USB to IDE cable to try and get as much if not all of the information off the damaged drive.

@rangerxlt:
I have a T22 base for sale with working 900MHz CPU and the large T22 cooler. Don't know the mobo-status as I have no RAM to check it.
It does beep for having no RAM and the fan spins up.
The base itself is in perfect condition and has an extra heatsink along the bottom under the CPU.
