It ran for about an hour...

then the system board I just bought (!) won't work...the fan that runs full blast for about 5 seconds or so doesn't do that anymore! It will spin at a reduced rate, then the max, and repeat that for about 20 seconds, then I get a "Fan Error" message, and the machine shuts down...anything I can do?

Check the fan connection and wires. If that's ok get a new fan and/or a new systemboard.

I have two fans: One I know is a good working one from my old system, and a long fan (questionable since I just got it and it rattles a bit)...both do the same thing.

Maybe they can replace the board under warranty.
