Did you format it as bootable ie. with the HP usb format utility? (http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=197)

It's doable. The flash drives are recognized as a USB HD. I've booted DS Linux off of a flash drive on my T40 many times. It can be a lengthy load time depending on the distro you use,k but it is definitely possible.

Did this last week with a brand-spankin' new Fedora 9 live usb memory card created for me at work (I work in Raleigh, if that's any hint). Worked fine, booted up pretty quickly.

I used an SD card in a PC Express Card reader, and BIOS readjusted to boot from a USB HDD.

2 gb was what they told me was the minimum.

Yep, yep, I remember. I moved to the Woodcroft area this past weekend, loving the new neighborhood.
