ActiveWindowTracking?

#1 Post by EAkamai » Sat May 17, 2008 6:05 pm

Aloha nui loa to this most Incredible Forum! Should have came aboard here long ago, but we only just recently were able to replace our laptop that Katrina so rudely took away from us. Please forgive me for asking a question right out of the blocks. ;)

I pray you can help me with a question i've been researching for a long time now. Looked everywhere with no joy.

On all our other systems i enjoy putting in mouse drivers that give me the subject line feature: being able to simply scroll the mouse over a window and have that window automatically highlighted. Hopefully this is clear to the savy users on this amazing forum. I have not found a way to do this with my new T61. Changing the registry entry as instructed will not make any difference.

Now i could install the logitech drivers which did give me what i wanted but it seemed to wipe out the Synaptics UltraNav drivers. I then tried to simply update one of the "HID-compliant mouse" entries (there are two of these) but neither one worked.

Is there any way to get this working or am i trying to hope for the moon? Since losing our Laptop in Katrina i've not had a lot of experience with the touchpad and "nipple?" so i' thought this would really help my productivity on this fantastic laptop.

I use it with an added Logi laptop mouse and neither will automatically activate the windows like my desktops. yeah, i know this is pretty minor, but once you get used to something, well, you know how it is. I've looked everywhere in the UltraNav drivers but can't find anything on this.

Mahalo (er, Thank you very much) for any help you can provide on this.

Logitech or Synaptics

#2 Post by EAkamai » Sun May 18, 2008 12:05 pm

What would i lose by just using the logitech drivers? As they do seem to work for everything just fine. Seems like i would lose something specifically for the UltraNAV. Could someone tell me just what constitutes the UltraNav exactly? I suspect that the 2 HID-compliant mouse entries are: 1 for my usb logitech mouse and 1 for the "nipple" in the middle of the keyboard. The Ultranav must be for the touch pad and all the buttons below the keyboard?

Would this be accurate? Seems like if i install the logitech drivers the UltraNav entry disappears. One thing i haven't checked is whether or not i get the window tracking with the ultranav/touchpad but perhaps it's time i force myself to get used to this without the mouse as i will be using it for Tech work where the mouse may not always be feasible.

I still wonder if the logitech drivers would take up less resources than the Synaptics drivers? Any input would be a blessing.

Thanks

Please say whether you use Windows Vista or XP.

For XP, this tool: Tweak UI should have the settings somewhere.

I have tried this setting (focus follows mouse) in the past, but as everything non-default, it tends to cause trouble. Two of my most-used applications couldn't cope with it well (one, for example, automatically popped up, because it wasn't expecting to have focus and not be in foreground), so had to give up.

Thank you for the response Zender. It's XP Pro. Guess i could try Tweak UI, since i've used it for other systems. Never liked it as much as the earlier versions for the W9x systems - seemed to provide much more options. If i use the mouse the Logitech drivers do what i need, but i know there will be times when the mouse won't be feasible and then what? Guess i'll just have to get used to the way it is.

I may try again to stick the Logi drivers in to see how it effects the UltraNav module(s) and depending upon what i lose or gain, make my decision.

I wish that somebody whose used this system enough can tell me what i lose or gain by not using the synaptic drivers. That would be a huge help at this point.

Thank you again for your input :)
