Recovering data from password protected T30 hard drive
Recovering data from password protected T30 hard drive
Had a quick search for info, apologies if this has been covered before.
my old T30 has finally died a death. No hd issues. I need the data on the hd but have password protected it. What are my options for recovering the data? Will i be able to read the data if i install the data in a caddy? Have access to other tps, a 240x and t42 - will i be able to install in these and remove the pw?

You should be able to get at your files and also delete the password. Here's a very similar situation.
T61p 6460-67G; 15,4 WSXGA+ W7P x64, no hairdryer.
T43p 2668-G2G, 14,1 SXGA+, XP Pro, internal hairdryer
T23 2647-9LG, 14,1 SXGA+, XP Pro, no hairdryer

A T30 Windows install may or may not boot well enough in a T42 to get to the point where you could open an Explorer window - depends how significant the hardware differences are. The Ultrabay is your better option.rutteger wrote:Cheers for the response chaps, will try my ultrbay in the T42 at some point, see if it works. If not assume a direct install of ther HD in the T42 will allow me to access the drive and remove the pw.
One other possibility would be to put the T30 drive in the primary slot, then boot from an Ultrabay device or USB stick with another OS - any Linux "live" versions should work as long as it has support for NTFS.
BTW - one thing that definitely would not work is putting the locked disk in a USB drive enclosure. USB drives do not support the IDE password protocol, so don't waste your money.

Alternative option: find someone else with a T30, put your HD in there and unlock the HD. Then use any other means as described above, even the USB case will do.
