x300 Projector Connection Problems

#1 Post by kipudorjee » Wed May 21, 2008 9:42 pm

I searched for this issue in the forums but didn't find a match. Maybe someone can help.

I have a new X300 that generally works fine except when trying to use the VGA port with a video projector. We set up the Presentation Manager to run at 1440 X 900 in normal laptop mode and 1024 X 768 in presentation mode. The graphics options have been set to [panel fit/center desktop] for the 1024 X 768 resolution. We have swapped cables, and even the system board in the laptop but still have problems.

When the VGA port is connected to an analog CRT or an LCD panel, the secondary monitor is OK. However, if VGA output is connected to a projector, the image is wiggly and squished horizontally. We got the same results on a Sony LCD projector and a Yamaha DLP projector when connected to their respective analog VGA inputs.

Oddly enough, a good image can only be obtained on the projector by first connecting the X300 to a CRT and adjusting for a good image. If the VGA cable is then physically moved from the monitor to the projector, the projected image is good. Using the presentation manager to go from projector mode to normal laptop mode also works. But trying to go back into projection mode results in a projected image that is again wiggly and squished horizontally. No amount of tinkering will bring back a proper image.

We are just trying to clone the desktop, not span. The options for laptop+monitor and monitor+laptop seemed to be involved in all this, but we don't know exactly how. Can anybody help us get the X300 to work properly with video projectors? Thanks for the help.
