X40 memory upgrade

#1 Post by ilias » Thu May 22, 2008 12:18 am

Hi,

I am quite new here, so please accept my apologies if i'm not writing this post in the right place.

I am the happy owner of an X40 with 512+256 DDR SODIMM PC2700. I want to upgrade my ram, and i found 1gb for around 60$ and 2gb for 80$. I want to buy the 2gb. But i found on couple of website that the maximum memory accepted is 1,5gb. Is it right?

i only have one slot, and 512mb seems to be on the motherboard, can i open it to switch the 512 for a 1gb or more?

Does the x40 accept the DDRII (DDR2) sodimm, it is interesting as it is cheaper? ;)

thank you so much for any help.

Kind regards,

ilias,

i guess place is right, though search function would give you an answer, too. X40 accepts DDR1 only, see thinkwiki.org .

I recently bought a x40 and an x41. the X40 only take ddr1. There are no 2 G ddr1. So, the most u can get is 1.5 G of RAM on your laptop.

hi!

Thank you so much for your quick replies!

I believe i will have to buy a 1gb ddr even if it seems more expensive than the ddr2. It's crazy that old generation is more expensive than the new one! ;)

Well, i hope to find a nice deal, the cheapest one i found was about 60$ including the shipping to the us or canada....

thanks again!!!

It does seem crazy but in reality it is the rule of supply and demand. The current memory is the one that is being manufacturered so since everyone is making it there is more of it and the price is lower. Once the manufacturers move to the next style the old style becomes rarer and there is less of it.

Also a worldwide glut of memory has made this commodity very inexpensive right now.

So with these two factors reducing memory prices to record lows buy the cheap ram now because when you need it the price will be higher. Does this make any sense?

THe X40's maxim capacity of Memory is 2G, so buying a 1G is the best.
If you buy a 2G, not all of it can be recognized
