Just curious as to what you will be using such a unit for? I have never heard of this series but went ahead and researched it on ThinkWiki and this puppy is smaller than an X series!

But very outdated component wise, we're talking PIII.

The holy grail of ThinkPads...good luck finding it...

One of the very few ThinkPads I've always wanted but never owned...

The price is 23,625 Yens (Around $240) & looks like some damage on top of LCD.

I don't know much Japanese & here is translation for google.

I want to use it as my main machine, i belive it's possible to switch the cpu to a P3-1.2ghz which would be fine with me, and PIII-600mhz would be enough for me, i'm using linux.

EDIT: Pm sent to Sandy, $200 dollar in reward if he can ship this unit to me.

From what I know, it's not possible to upgrade the CPU to 1.2...you could possibly get away (and that's a maybe) with Coppermine 1.0 like one that's in T22 that you've just bought from me... :D

The board takes PC100 if I'm not mistaken...However, heatsink would not be anywhere near sufficient for the hottest CPU of them all...

But I'm speculating here, a bit too much for my own liking...

erik, where are you when we need you, sir... 8)

I've owned 2 S30s and both were sold on this forum. The CPU is soldered to the board much like the X-series. So you are stuck with a p3 600.

They're very nice systems but piano finish is hard to keep in good shape as it gets scratched easily much like Ipods. Keyboard is pretty small but not bad. On the plus side, small and light. The small plastic pieces attached to screen that cover the keyboard look like silly ears which makes it look pretty cute. :)

Some of them came with firewire/network card, others with wireless instead. Mine had the former. Batteries are very hard to find here and cost in excess of $150 if you can locate one. I bought the second one for the battery, really. Some came with external CDROM/floppy drives. OS is a bit of a pain load if you don't have either or just floppy.

That should give you some idea of what you are dealing with. Good luck in finding one, they're almost worth their weight in gold around here.

i added a genuine IBM 128MB PC133 module to mine to max it out at 256MB.   i guess i was under the impression that it used PC133 modules.   i've read conflicting reports.

like syncromesh said, the CPU is soldered on so there's no way to upgrade it.   with a 7200RPM HDD the s30 flies and can run many mid-2000's-era applications quite well.

i've kicked around the idea of selling my s30 to bill morrow but haven't committed to it yet.   it's a great little system but i rarely use it anymore.   it doesn't do much good just sitting around. :?

That's the problem I had with mine. I'd be pretty upset if anything happened to a collector's item like that on my watch hence it spent almost all the time I had with it at home sitting on my desk.

the one on ebay is missing the VGA adapter cable and PCCARD/CF slot cover, plus it doesn't have built-in wireless or the more-desirable "mirage black" lid.   mine may not have the original box but i'd say it's worth more than this one.   it'll be interesting to see the final sale price as it will give me a good idea of what mine is worth. :)

I have a S30, working very well, I'm using it as EMule machine right now.
How much would you pay for it?
