R40 vs R51

#1 Post by Boo » Thu May 22, 2008 4:42 pm

My company is selling some of our old Thinkpads. They have some R40s and R51. R51 has the Intel Centrino processor 1.5 Mz while the R40 has the Pentium 4M. They both have 768MB RAM. I was thinking about getting my daughter one to use in her room since they both have wireless capability. Which mode to you think would be best? R40 is more rugged but the monitor is 15" while the R51 has the 14.1" monitor but it is lighter.
Thanks
Boo

My vote goes to the R51 with the Pentium M processor.

(FYI: The processor is not called "Centrino;" that is a clever marketing ploy that Intel thought up to get OEMs to purchase their chipsets, processors, and wireless cards).

My experience with Pentium 4 processors, both mobile and otherwise, has always been poor (performance, heat, and battery life being the main reasons).

No doubt, R51. The casing is different materials but I really liked my R52, it was pretty sturdy.
