X61s with Intel 4965AGN - problem keeping connection

#1 Post by sbkim » Thu May 22, 2008 10:19 pm

Hello

Just picked up Trendnet N router supposedly capable of 300mbps.

http://trendnet.com/products/proddetail ... 3GR&cat=66

Using its N card, I am seeing speeds above 200s.

On my X61s with 4965, the most I am seeing is 130 which I guess makes sense since my router is not 5ghz. However, I can't even seem to maintain 130. It often drops back down to 50s. Any idea what settings I can check to make sure? I just downloaded the latest driver from Intel but to no avail.

THank you in advance.

you probably getting some intereference or that the router is just not able to keep that link. Do you notice a speed difference say when just browsing the net? Streaming files from another machine too?

I notice sometimes even though my link speed is slower i still get my normal speed when streaming. You never actually get 130Mbps anyways, normally 50-60Mbps. I dunno how it all works but i still get 6-8MB/s when copying files from my server.

(i have a WRT600n dualband so i get 270Mbps but that fluctuates also - more probably because of the A band (5Ghz). It doesn't penetrate walls and all that so easily.

Thank you for the reply. I noticed initially it's at 130 but as soon as I stream or start browsing it goes down to 1/2 of the original speed. Each time I reset my wireless setting, it goes back up to 130. Very strange indeed.

I've updated with the latest driver and now thinking about using the network program provided by Thinkpad - think connect or something...

Access Connections wont make your connection better. take a look at stuff like cordless phones and all the normal stuff in your house. Temporarily unplug them and check signals pluggin them in 1 by 1. Even when they aren't being used they still transmit signals.

Also put your laptop right beside the router and see what happens then. If it still fluctuates then it might be an issue with the router. Is it a Draft 2.0 router?

Yes - the router is draft 2 and was sitting right next to the router. I may change channel etc to see if that helps. Good to know the access connection prob won't help.
