"Unable to determine your system configuration"
"Unable to determine your system configuration"
That's what I get when I click "Automatically detect my system" on the page http://www.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss. When I click on: "Automatically detect my system" on the right-hand side of the page http://www.ibm.com/products/finder/us/f ... g=ddfinder, I get: "There was an error getting your machine type information".
This problem just began after I downloaded and installed some driver updates from the IBM site. Up until that point my system was recognized by IBM.
Anyone have any idea what might be wrong? If not, is there someone I can turn to with this at IBM? So far I've only found an address for hardware problems.

I have the same problem since they changed to the new design (or at least I never ran it until recently, so it might also be related to installation of drivers). I get the message:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ndows%20XP
Now note the URL that I pasted above the quote. See the Unkn-own bit? Just change that to your model number and then you can access the page for your model. Stupid, but simple and effective.
eg. mine is:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ndows%20XP
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ndows%20XP
That's from clicking the one on the right hand side column, 'coz clicking the one in the middle just makes it reload the page with nothing.Information for 'UNKN-OWN' was not found. You may navigate by clicking on 'Personal computing support' on the left and choosing a product.

T60p (200784U) - standard (no upgrades... yet)
Unable to determine your system configuration
I just ran software installer. A couple of WinXP hotfixes would not run but it offered to let me run them manually, so I did. Now I get this message too.
I don't see that anyone has posted a solution.

Auto Detection from the Lenovo website requires an ActiveX plugin. IE blocks all Active X plugins besides Microsoft's by default. You will need to configure IE to accept Active X from Lenovo. Firefox does not support this at all.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.
