boot/user password with new hard disk drive

#1 Post by kankan » Mon May 26, 2008 3:36 pm

Hi there,

As the owner of a t42 and t41, I have been suffering recently with lack of room on the 40gb drives. I took the Thinkpad community advice and installed an hatachi travelstar 100gb drive and cloned with acronis. With fingers crossed I re-booted and hey presto it worked like a dream! Thank you all very much. No error codes, astonishing!

However the boot password is gone. Is this the price we pay for not using IBM/Lenovo products? Or is there a way of reinstating the boot password code?

Thank you all once again.

If you are talking about the disk password, which is prompted at boot time, it has to be set for each drive. Go to the BIOS under security and set it.

Thank you richk, that works.

Apologies to IBM/Lenovo for my negative thoughts.
