Replacing the hard drive on the X21?

#1 Post by Dark Savant0 » Tue May 27, 2008 6:00 pm

I'm trying to switch the hd from my 600e to the x21 I just bought, but there seems to be a small tab on the side on the hard drive near the IDE connectors that blocks the drive from being properly inserted. Is there any reason for this? Can I safely remove it with no repercussions?

Small tab...are you talking about a jumper? That should not prevent drive insertion. What model is the drive?

^Like that tab of the right of the drive^

Actually, it looks like the plastic assembly on it will prevent it from being inserted at all, just because of protusions on both sides... :-\ Oh well.

That's a standard 40GB 5400rpm 2.5" laptop HDD. There is no reason it will not fit in your machine..it is not the 'tabs'.

Well whenever I try to place it in, it just will not go. I do not know why, and I have never had this problem before. Does anyone have a similar setup they can try just to see if it will fit? I'm losing my mind...

Did you install the drive upside down in the caddy?

Its not put in upside down nor backwards. The hard drive for whatever reason just wont go in all the way. I've never had this happen before either...
