#1 Post by koden » Fri May 30, 2008 5:05 am

Are there anyone knowing if it will be possible to change harddrive in my T40 with a flash drive in the future.
Maybe lenovo has send some inf. out??

Or is it just to early to know this?
I'm danish. Sorry for my sometimes bad english spelling and understanding.

Quite a few users have tried using solid-state disks (SSD's) on T4x's, and several successfull (and also several less successfull..) reports can be found on this forum - e.g. T41 + 8GB CF-IDE (Solid State).

I suggest you try use the Search function, and search for SSD (and start by limiting your search to this, the T4x forum).

I myself am also (very!) interested in swapping my mechanical (7200 rpm, 60 GB) T42p HDD with a fast, completely noiseless SSD, but until I see/hear of someone having obtained success with one of the newest, fastest SSD's, I am hesitating a bit - also because the prices are a bit high for the time being...

Please keep us posted if you go along with implementing a SSD in a T4x - thanks!

Johan

PS: Like you, I am also Danish (hooray for us few and really rare Danes!), so I take the liberty of "borrowing" your comment, and applying it to me as well: "I'm danish. Sorry for my sometimes bad english spelling and understanding."

I had success dropping one of these into a T42:

after cloning the disk (WXPP) with trueimage, including the recovery partition, which works.
Not cheap, but fast and completely silent. Just make sure you leave the jumper attached for the drive to be master, otherwise it won't show up on the boot list - documentation is sketchy on this.

Yes, intel is working on a SSD std called ONFI. Samsung is promoting a different standard. There is some effort to work together thru JEDEC.

There are SSD in the legacy PATA and SATA interfaces. These new standards will be smaller and support more applications than PCs.
