3G card Sierra Wireless or Lenovo

#1 Post by kung » Fri May 30, 2008 5:19 am

I am buying Lenovo x300 but in my country (Thailand)the 3G WWAN module is not included in the laptop and can not order as an option.
Anyone know is Lenovo FRU 42T0901 are exactly the same as Sierra Wireless MC8775 ? Will I have Bios problem if I install the Sierra Wireless brand MC8775. or do I have to buy it from Lenovo.
as it has FRU ?

YES, 42T0901 is a Sierra Wireless MC8775 which maybe according to this posting in the T6x Series forum maybe unlocked too.

More than likely YES, you will need to re-flash your BIOS - please refer this post for details etc.

I have installed an HP hs2300 Sierra Wireless branded MC8775 (Unlocked) WWAN module in my T60p by flashing the BIOS as mentioned in the above Post. :thumbs-UP:

May be I should get the Lenovo branded FRU 42T0901 so I will not have any problem with Bios. My knowledge about Bios is NONE !
The 42T0901 is approved part for X300

BTW I modded Sierra Wireless' Generic Driver to also work with Lenovo Cards (This one is most recent, Lenovos original driver is rather old!): http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... highlight=

Hello vpn-user, I just wanted to thank you for those modded driveres. Going from a sluggish wwan experience to a really working macine....Excellent. Thank you.

btw, any news on firmware version for this card? I have the 42t0931 unbranded EU card with firmware ver. H1_1_8_3MCAP. Is this the latest?

Regards
Henning
